Hi,

I've bought a new GTX 1060 6gb, to replace a GTX 650ti on an ASUS P8Z68-V LX motherboard, i5 2500 CPU.

Anyway, it won't work .. my PC simply refuses to start or do anything other than (the first time around) make weird noises, but as soon as I put my old card back in, everything is fine.

I was wondering if it might be a Bios issue .. but if my comp can run the 650ti perfectly well then shouldn't it be able to run the 1060 too? I mean are they really that dissimilar?

I'm reluctant to update the BIOS because I've read that doing this (on this motherboard) can make overclocking impossible .. newer versions of the Bios to the one I'm using seem to mess this up for some reason.

If I do update the BIOS and it messes everything up, is there any way of resetting it back again? (I've never attempted to do this before and am kinda reluctant to mess with it ..)

Anyway thanks for any help!

Check your MB to see what BIOS it has, If it does not have the newer version, 4105. I think the problem is from the BIOS. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_LX/HelpDesk_Download/

The gtx1060 is new GPU, if the MB does not have the new BIOS, and the MB will have problem to recognize the new hardware so that the PC will not boot. Yes, when you update the BIOS, and all the settings will be set to default, you have to reset them.

@cin19 .. thanks for your help.

I actually made a mistake in my OP, my motherboard is P8Z68-V LE (not LX) .. but thanks for the link, I managed to find the correct MB info by navigating from there.

Now, here's the weird thing .. my Bios version is 1106 (I checked this using run>cmd and also by going into the Boot options or whatever they're called), but there is no Bios version 1106 listed at any time for my motherboard!

The info for which is here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_LE/HelpDesk_BIOS/

.. so how can I have a Bios version which isn't even listed? Where does it come from? *shrugs"
