Hi, I ordered a new asus dual gtx 1070 off of eBay recently, and while testing it, I ran across an interesting problem I can't seem to remedy. While playing my most intensive game (PUBG), I constantly ran into a wall when my VRAM would only hit 4gb of usuage (this game is known to use more). The card has 8gb on it yet it seems to not want to go above 50% usage.

I've tried changing the GPU setting to "maximum performance" in the Nvidia control panel, but that didn't do anything. This is my first Nvidia card and I'm a little lost on what to do. My GeForce Experience program claims all my drivers are up to date.

Here are some pictures of my stats while running the game (most of the max values in Open Hardware Monitor should be attributed to PUBG). I noticed in my dxdiag window, it claims the approximate total memory is 4GB, yet in GPUz or OHM it says my maximum GPU memory is 8GB, with only 4GB getting used.

any suggestions would be appreciated

Having your card run under 100% usage is a good thing, it is the same concept as 100% disk or CPU usage, it will stress it more and will in the long run, reduce the life span of your card. The 1070 is a very powerful card and it is noticing that it does not need to use above 50% power to run the game, therefore it WILL NOT run above 50% unless needed, this is a built in safety protocol by the card. It knows that running at max capacity is not good for it, so if it does not need to run at max capacity it wont. PUBG is a poorly optimized game as it is and my 1060 6gb only hits about 60% usage because I dont need anything above that power.
Hope this helps
Also the best reason i can guess why it says you only have 4gb of memory is because youve never used anything above 4gb while playing PUBG... Not sure whats wrong here, if you had listed your specs i would have been able to help more, get back to me with what RAM and CPU you have as well as your PSU.
Have a great day :)

Games use what they use. If PUBG isn't using more than 4GB of VRAM, it doesn't need more than 4GB of VRAM. I wouldn't worry about what dxdiag says, this isn't the first time I've heard of it being inaccurate about VRAM.

Unless you're having actual performance issues, I don't see an issue here.

my CPU is the i5-3570k (OC'ed to 4.1GHz)
PSU is Corsair Professional Series Hx850
RAM is Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4)

and in regards to performance issues TJ, technically speaking I guess I don't have any, but I have noticed that my FPS drops to as low as 50 in some places in PUBG when my previous GPU (Sapphire Radeon Rx480 Nitro+) would perform with a lower ceiling but a higher floor for FPS. This could be just AMD/Nvidia differences with the game, though.

In terms of dropping to 50 fps, I will say that that is also normal for PUBG, it is a poorly optimized game for any card that i know of, my buddy with a 7700k and a 1080ti even has the same issues, this is because it has yet to release optimization drivers for Nvidia, i recommend installing GeForce experience if you dont have it already, and optimizing the settings for PUBG through that, I run Re-shade and lose a solid 15 FPS from doing so, but after i optimized the settings through Geforce Experience and gained that 15 fps back.
We continue to see better frames and handling for the game with each update, it is still in early access and this should be expected.
Hope this answered your question
