Hi all

I recently bought a new internal Hard Disk. (WD WD3200AAJS Hard Drive 320 GB Internal 3.5 inch SATA-300 -7200 rpm).

I made the purchase because I needed more space for gaming. However, any large files/folders (including downloads from Steam) transferred/downloaded to the hard disk start off fine. Then after about 30 - 45 seconds my entire pc begins to stutter intermittently. This continues until I hard reset my PC.

I have formatted it and any Checkdisk comes back fine. I have ran WD's diagnostic program too, it starts off fine then the stuttering occurs. I have tried defragging and after a few seconds my entire PC begins to stutter. Small files like music or pics transfer fine, store fine and have no errors when being played back. It seems only to be any prolonged usage that causes the error.

I am tearing my hair out over this. Please Help!!

I have included some info on my current set up:
- Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9400, 2.66GHz 6MB Cache
- 8GB DDR2, Corsair™ XMS2 Twin2x4096-6400, 800MHz
- ASUS® P5N-D (NVIDIA® nForce® 750i SLI™)
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780 3Gb SC
- 750 Watt with ICE Cube technology
- Microsoft® Windows 7 (64 bit)

Hey there, Hardware Hunty!

I'm very sorry to hear about your struggles with your WD Blue drive. It sounds like you are dealing with a faulty HDD. :(
Since WD Data LifeGuard cannot test it properly, I strongly recommend getting in touch with our tech support and letting them know about the issue. I believe you should send out an RMA request and get yourself a replacement HDD, because your hard drive should still be within the warranty period.
Here are the contacts: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=ZiNO6R
How to RMA your WD Blue: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=CJgvJ7

Hope this helps you! Good luck!

Data LifeGuard won't detect "slow" or weak sectors. Instead I would perform a full surface scan using a tool such as HDDScan in Windows or MHDD in DOS (better). HDDScan will also report the raw values of the SMART attributes whereas DLG does not. Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

Ah gutted, hoped it was fixable.

Anyway thanks very much. I'll take your advice SuperSoph_WD - However, I bought it from a seller on amazon so I am going to start the refund/replacement policy with them.

Thanks again for your responses :)
