The hard drive in question:
WD Black 1TB Hard Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 2.5 Inch - WD10SPSX

I am running Windows 10 Pro on an older HP Envy laptop with an I7-6700HQ with 8Gb of memory. I have defined a fixed partition size for my 'swap space' of 32768Mb with 1899Mb being recommended. In the past, on older laptops, this worked very well for me. I have about 851Gb free space as well.

I get a lot of hard drive thrashing in general with the Chrome Browser with YouTube being particularly bad. Zoom will also thrash pretty hard at startup.

Is the 8Gb of RAM too little? Is my problem fixable with more memory assuming I can find some at a reasonable cost? If I'm looking at too much in updates, I guess I need to look for a reasonable replacement with more modern I/O. Benchmarks still look pretty good so, I'm questioning whether I have a hard drive issue or controller issue or, whether it something else and hard drive thrashing is just a symptom and not the cause (i.e. RAM limitation).

TIA,
Sid
