New hard drive has a black case around it

I bought this hard drive:

It looks like this, as I expected:

Except it has a black case around the edge as though it's to be slotted in, it's also covering the data and power ports and replaces them with one that I don't recognize.

My motherboard is a 760GM-P21 (FX), have i bought the right hard drive?

I'm not sure what it is you are referring to. Can you take a pic and post it of the actual drive that you have?

Can this casing be removed?

Yes, this drive should work on your motherboard as it is a SATA interface. The SATA connectors look like this:

If so, that is all just packaging to protect it. Remove it and you will be able to install it as usual.

i think it can be removed, i just don't want to damage anything. it's also screwed in so it doesn't just come out.

There's probably 4 screws around the outer edge that can be removed that will take the case off, and then you'll be left with just the drive.
