New Hard Drive Strange Problems

I just installed a new hard drive today straight out of the box. I want to take ownership of it so i can use it, so i go into the properties, advanced, blah blah, and then i get to the part where i have selected the right user, check the box that allows the transfer of ownership, and it always says denied, no matter what i do

What OS are you using? Try the drive with a different SATA port and different cables as well, to see if the same thing happens. It has some tips and guides on what might work in a situation like yours.
Note that it should be initialized, partitioned and formatted via Disk Management before you start doing anything else with it.

You shouldn't need to do any of that. If it's new, just format it in disk management.

Ok how can i format the new hard drive? i have never worked with storage devices before

Go into Disk Management (you should be able to find it simply by starting typing in the search bar in the start menu/screen). It should prompt you to initialize the drive.
