Yeah, I have one 60GB and three 30GB drives. They are all from the Diamond Max Plus 60 series (7200RPM, 2MB cache, ATA00).

I really like these drives and I get pretty good performance out of all four of them. I get a sustained transfer of 36MB/sec out of the 30GB with a seek time of around 9.0ms.

Hope that helps you out!

Umm...how is that huge list of prices going to help him?

I have two of the DMP 60's as well. I get 36MB/s from both in a RAID 0, but not from a single one. Still trying to figure out how Lars gets that :(
I'll download HDTach tonight and post my results.

Don't you love it! I was surprised myself! Good seek time and really good sustained transfer. Couldn't ask for any less ... I got that bench off of the drive having about 2GB's of data on it within Windows Millennium. I don't seem to do as good in Win2k. *POS*

I posted my RAID bench. I get 43MB/sec sustained on a 9.6ms seek.

Ahh....FAT32?
Faster than NTFS. I was getting worried that I had screwed up my drives :)

At least my RAM scores are better...lol

ok, i think that i am going to be getting the hard drive today. and i am going to put my old 10 gig maxtor in my little sister's computer, which is darelect right now because it's 5 gig wd crapped out after 2 years of use....hehe
i havent had a good experience with wd, except for the one that i put in my older sister's computer, the 30 gig 7200rpm one...it seems to work great, and it is pretty fast.
no probs so far, *KNOCK ON WOOD*
i sure hope that the new maxtor that i am gonna get lasts as long as the one i have in my computer right now...i think that it has been like 4 years now...
i know i got it when ata-66 had only been out for a while...but not sure, i know it cost a bunch for the ata-66 controller, and the drive was kinda exp....but worth it to me.

Alright, took a trip to fry's...
and let me tell you, i think that they should set up some sort of frequent buyers miles system or something, because in the past few weeks, i have spent so much time and money in that place!
well, i walked over to the parts department, and over to the hard drive section.
i saw the 60 gig maxtor i had been looking into..
but then, out of the corner of my eye, i saw the brand new ata-133 40 gig maxtor for about 30 less....all the other specs were the same, 7200 rpm, 2 meg buffer, 3.5"3 year warranty...but it had a faster seek time, and was udma 133.
this thing was going for $99!!!!!!!!!!!
this thing is fast as hell,
sure, it isnt running at ata-133, only 100 on the mobo, but this thing accesses REALLY FAST!!!!!
i know it is 20 gigs less, but this thing was 30 bucks less, and more future compatible...
so it was the better deal in my eyes...
too bad this was a promotional sale that ended today...
man, i am glad that i saw that, and that i didnt wait until this weekend...
gotta love fry's!
oh yeah, and anyone who lives near a fry's and uses pc-133, and doesnt have that much, get yer arse over to fry's, and get a stick of 256 megs of pc-133 for $20!!!!!!!
i know i am sounding like an ad for fry's here, but they seem to have sale-itis or something...
the drive i got is the MAXTOR DIAMOND/PLUS D740X 40GB DMA/133.
sweet drive...
but the only thing is, that on my k7s5a, hard drive tach goes nuts, and give me a bsod, but i am thinking that it is my el-cheapo ddr, and i am thinkin about getting the mushkin ram with heat spreaders...but maybe the crucial...just because in the manual, they say that the crucial 256 meg stick has been tested on this board...
