New HDD for my laptop

My hard drive for my laptop recently broke and I am in search of a new one. I think I've found one that will work but I just want to make sure. I know the HDD is only 160GB but I had a 500GB one before this and I used nowhere near that, as well as this laptop will mainly be used for web-browsing and maybe skype, so I dont need alot of space for games/programs. I also want to make sure that I can install windows 7 on this HDD cause I saw some people in the comments on amazon saying that since this is a "performance" drive you cant install windows is that true or no?
