So I am having a crazy problem. Recently purchased a new case and when I got everything switched out and plugged back and going my second hdd wasn't showing up in my PC. Keep in mind I had tons of games installed so it didn't need formatting. So I switched my ssds cables out with my hdds and it wouldnt boot. So I figured maybe it was a bad power cable so I switched it out to a brand new one and it still didn't come up. Not sure if it's cables or maybe something in windows?

Any ideas?

Have you changed both the SATA and power cables? Also, you should try connecting the drive to a different SATA port. If it is not recognized again, you can unplug the SSD and plug the HDD in the slot(with the SSD's cables) and see whether the HDD will get recognized.

Hi there Monsieur Worm,

I would advise you to check/change the data cable as well.
If the HDD is not recognized by BIOS, you can try it on another computer. If it is not recognized over there as well, then there is something wrong with the HDD.
If the HDD is working fine on another computer, then the problem is in your system. This means that you should check the connections(swap SATA ports, data and power cables) and update your MOBO SATA drivers.

If you moved power cables from the old box to the new one, then you may have have introduced a serious problem. That's because modular PSU cables do not appear to follow a standardised pinout.

The first thing I would do is to take a multimeter and measure the voltages at the SATA power pins.

Do the HDDs spin up? Do they appear in BIOS if you disconnect the SSD?

Well the hard drive was bad. So I just got the replacement and i'm having the same issue. Except I can feel the hard drive vibrating so it's working. I was able to initialize it and format it but once I started to install a game on it it stopped and so I restarted my PC and now its not showing up in BIOS, or Disk Management :/
