P4 3.0Ghz @ 3.5Ghz
Abit IC-7
1GB OCZ PC 4000 DDR @940
Hercules 3D Prophet 9800XT
SB Audigy 2 ZS
160GB SATA Maxtor drive

Aquamark score is 19,578!!

That's right the Geforce 4 Ti 4600 is getting a higher score than me! All settings are at default including the video card settings. I have a problem getting AGP to run on my system as well. ATI's smartgar untility keeps turning AGP off on my system since "off" is the most compatible. Sorry, I didn't dish out this kind of money on cutting edge hardware to run an 8X AGP motherboard and a 8X AGP video card without AGP at all. So this may be some of the problem. I do not o/c video card since it is too expensive. I have tried everyting. I also have the latest bios for m/b and latest drivers for video card. What gives? Thanks for any suggestions.

1- Have you deactivate AA and AF
2-Do you have programs running in the background
3-If before your radeon you had a nvidia , use a driver cleaner utility
4-Try formating

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb) , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/370) , 512mb pc3200 (3-3-3-2), Asus A7N8X-X

checked all that. all is at defaults. no aa/af (except that aquamark defaults to run with 4x Af) won't format since this is a brand new system I just finished last Thursday. Thanks for the advice though.

Have you run any other benchmark

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb) , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/370) , 512mb pc3200 (3-3-3-2), Asus A7N8X-X

yes I have.

3dmark 2001 just a hair over 17,000 points

3dmark 2003 just a hair over 6000 points

Both just a little subpar but not close to as subpar as my scores with Aquamark. Re-installing aquamark.

Does aquamark run with sound? Can't remember offhand, but that would explain the difference between 3dmark and Aquamark scores... and would give you a place to start looking for a problem.

Have you tweaked your bios yet? Try changing the graphic aperature size and your AGP capability. Worth a shot.....

Also, make sure the vid settings are set to performance, not quality. I found that will make a difference in the bench scores.

How is the computer performing in games, have you noticed anything like slow frame rates or locking of the computer?

michael, good ideas. will the apature size matter if ATI Smartgart utility disables AGP in its entirety when windows starts anyway? also, i have it on quality not performance. will try that.

performs well in games however. really does. jedi knight: academy stutters at 1280x1024 4xaa/8xaf however. no other probs yet. none at all. just very low bench scores

SmartGart won't affect aperture size characteristics, and the increase due to aperture size is not as significant as the difference you are experiencing (I get 30K in Aquamark3 with an overclocked R9600Pro plus an XP2000 [running overclocked to an XP2200+]).

Make an Aquamark3 run public, and post it here, that will help us understand better what is going on in your system.

Can you disable smartgart? If I remember correctly from my 9700pro, you could either disable smartgart or not install it.
Did you reinstall Aquamark and retry yet?

Geez....something's wrong, and since AM3 is more of a system benchmark then just graphics card, your whole system is running slow
Whats your 3DMark03 score?

Since it's kick'in out AGP, how about checking the chipset driver?

You got the cat 4.1 for the vid card?

Abit NF7-S v 2.0
Maxtor 60GB ATA 133 7200RPM

THE 4.1 DRIVER PACKAGE = NO AGP AT ALL. the smartgart utility turns it off for "maximum compatibility."

I have to fall back to the drivers that came with the card 3.8 Catalyst in order to get 4X AGP working. Never could do 8X though. annoying

The latest driver is rarely the best answer, I believe the best driver is the old Cat 3.7

Very strange, compare your A3 marks to mine for Cat 3.8 (BTW 3.9 gave me my best results for A3);

http://arc.aquamark3.com/arc/arc_view.php?runID=2073112049

Side by side I'd think you had an R9800SE not XT.

Your 3Dmarks say otherwise, but I have no idea what's going on with your rig.

It doesn't sound like a resource sucking conflict somewhere along the line.

If you look at the base scores side by side, my R9600Pro running at stock, on an XP2000+ at stock, beats it overall, but the breakdown is interesting;

Minimum and Maximum triangles per second you far outperform me, but with the average mine's about 30% better than your run (5.8mil versu 7.5mil).
Minimum and maximum frames you go over again, yet average I have a significantly higher number.
There's obviously some serious spikes going on under your setup.

My only suggestion would be to check the detailed info after a run, and see if there is some area where the system is crapping out. Look at each test individually, perhaps cut/paste thos figures to compare.

Really, it's only a benchmark, but it is strange the results. It's almost as if one test isn't running right, skewing the overall results.
