Don't waste your time downloading the Doom3 vid. It's of the Xbox version and it looks ghetto(compared to PC version, then again looks ghetto even for Xbox) so unless you care to see how the xbox version looks, don't bother.

Just watched the video now, I didn't know it was the XBox version, oops!

I thought it looked pretty good though for Xbox.

I gotta say, I was pretty impressed with the way D3 was running on the Xbox.

Although, it's Half-Life 2 that really gets my nipples wet...

Yes, compared to the PC version it is very low quality, and the framerates looked a little choppy.. but it's still quite a feat that they are able to get it to run on an XBox, with the dynamic lights and shadow volumes, albeit at staggeringly lower quality. I ALWAYS enjoy being able to see videos of Doom and I hope that id gives us more to nibble on, but I'd rather see more videos of the PC version...

Keep in mind that because of the lower quality picture on Televisions versus monitors, the XBox version might <i>look</i> just as good (maybe) as the PC.

Umm a TV is something like 646x486 (NTSC, in the States). The level of detail will be completely different, though the game will prolly look amazing on a TV screen (due to John Carmack's current status as a minor diety).

The XBox renders internally at 640x480; try running your favorite PC game at that resolution and marvel at how awful it looks. Out of curiosity I tried Far Cry at 800x600 and the drop in overall quality was tremendous, it makes it look like a console game.

Even if you ran Doom XBox on a PC monitor it would still look really bad compared to its PC counterpart. The XBox is not only a console system, but also it's obselete, and Doom is a cutting-edge game that was written for PC. If you ran it on XBox2 in HD? That's a different matter. But nonetheless, the little squirt manages to impress, and Doom will probably be the best-looking game that will ever grace that system.

Did anyone read my post??? After reading everyone's response to my post, I think everyone misunderstood what I was trying to say, maybe it wasn't as clear as I thought (where's a Clarica advisor when you need one?), I'll try to restate it.

When I say that the XB might look as good as PC, what I mean is that because TVs don't show off the imperfections of low resolution like PC monitors do, it could look just as good. Don't believe me? Play your fav game at 640*480 or 800*600 if the game doesn't support 640, with no AA, then hook your PC to your TV and play the game, you'll notice that it almost seems as though AA is turned on when played on the TV because even though it is being rendered at the low resolutions, the imperfections of TV show less jaggies than a monitor would (TV is like the poor man's AA).
Also consider that when you play PC games, you sit a few feet away from your monitor, but when you play XB, you usually sit about 10 feet away, which due to limitations of human eye sight! makes it more difficult to notice poor IQ.
I agree that if you hook up an XB to a PC Monitor, you will notice much more jaggies and other nasty stuff than you would if it were hooked up to a TV. The XB is underpowered when compared to today's PCs.

Nonetheless, I still think that while technically inferior to the PC version, Doom 3 on XB looks amazing (but only on a TV I guess!)

Did you actually read what he said GW? It's clear to me that he’s saying that the Xbox version will look fine in comparison to the PC version at the 640x480 even 800x600 resolutions.

No where did he say oh the Xbox version will be better in any sense. I think your reading into it too much the post is clear I even caught what he meant in the first post. I think your being a bit over sensitive.

Rouch! You guys are a tough crowd. I mean, if a PC with 64mb of RAM and a Geforce3 ran Doom3 at that speed with that level of quality at 640x480, I'd be mighty impressed.

My old system with a Radeon 8500 berely got 8 to 15 fps running the alpha at 640x480 with 256megs of ram! Of course it was an alpha mind you, but still...

Unless you're arguing solely from the position that all concoles suck on principle, in which case you may have a point, there.

We've had those pre-order figures in my store since last summer, they're pretty useless IMO. They're about 2 inches tall and show very little detail. You get it when you pre-order the game, I'm assuming Future Shop is doing the same and the $10 is how much you need to put down towards the game, not how much the figure costs. As for that $200 thingy, I have no idea what that is?
