I bought a pre-made 40 meter Cat 7 Ethernet cable to go into my sons room.
To test it, I just pluged it into the router and ran the cable up the stairs and into his room.
Everything working and I was getting 160mb download speed which is what we expected.

The problem is now I have fitted the cable ,ran it outside the house, into the attic and into his room, the speed has dropped to 90mb download speed. The only thing that has changed with the cable is I had to put new Rj45 connectors on the cable.

Could someone kindly advise me please.

Many thanks.

Just changed the connectors and still the same speed. Nothing has changed. I had my hopes up as the connector in my sons room didn't look as if it was seated properly.
Would different quality plugs make any difference?

Are you trying to put standard rj45s on cat 7 cable? I'm not sure why anyone would buy cat7 as technically the specification doesn't exist and it uses special keystones. Is it shielded? Cat7 use slightly larger gauge copper, you may find you are struggling to get a proper crimp on it. All cores should reach right to the end of the plug, make sure all brass pins are seated fully. Are you sure it's certified cat7 not copper clad aluminium?

The cable I bought was stated as Cat 7 . I`ll try and post a link.
When I strip back the cable from the outer sheath, I have wire strands wrapped around the cable which i chopped off and 4 cables paired in foil which I stripped back.
The 8 cables do sit flush with the back of the connector which is just a standard Rj45 that came free with the crimp tool.

I`ve just nipped out to buy some other connectors to see if they work better.

I just changed one of the connectors with a new one I just bought and did a speed test which showed the speed I was looking for. 160mb.
All was well, so I thought until my son came down and said he got disconnected for a split second and now the speed has gone back down to 90mb.
Very strange.
