New laptop freezes frequently often I am reading on the kindle app and streaming music the music will slow or just abruptly stop after that I can click on thinks maybe 3 or four times even getting to a shut down or restart option however if i do a soft reset it freezes at the login screen once it is turned back on. system has been restored repaired drivers removed and reinstalled OS upgraded to 8.1 sent the comp to HP they sent it back saying the couldnt duplicate it. HELP!!! this is beyond frustrating

Start with Windows Diagnostics...
First try System File Checker
Winkey plus 'X'
Choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Type sfc /scannow then Enter

It finds and fixes errors in Windows, but doesn't always report them. Run it and see if the fault disappears after re-booting your system
If corrupt files are found that can’t be fixed, try

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

In fact run it anyway, even if SFC finds nothing.

Re-run SFC

To view CBS Log

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Search C drive for sfcdetails.txt or navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and scroll down.

Nope no change...

Presume you invited HP to use the Kindle App whilst streaming music? Does the machine freeze when doing anything else?
Think you should list what you've tried and return it to HP whilst insisting they replace it, as it's not fit for purpose...
Meanwhile run Speccy and check your temperatures on the off chance somebody made a mistake with the cooling during assembly.

(Hope you're not reading in bed without hard surface to rest it on...)

they said they cant recreate it.. and no I have a stand for it that sits next to my bed

How were your temps looking? Should be around 35-60 degrees, perhaps rising to 65-70 when stressed.
Could try Burnin test.

Possibly an intermittent Memory fault, run Memtest86

can anyone make this english?

I encountered exactly the same issue on Wednesday. Seems to be a clogged Windows 8 Windows Update issue. It was so shady that even system monitoring was picking up that the HDD was cranking to the point of a critical system event but wasn't also linking that to the fact that Windows itself was creating the fricken issue.

Please see my post,

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2198374/reason-hate-win-failing-updates-bog-system.html

Near the bottom of that post is "THE FIX" Let me know if that fixed you up. I hate Microsoft and I LOATHE Windows 8

Windows diagnostics will not identify this issue. The system monitor will detect that the HDD is being taxed but not the source of the issue. Chkdsk while also a good idea is likely not going to determine an issue. Most Win 8 machines have new harddrives and new harddrives are the least likely to have issues chkdsk will find/fix as a root cause to the slowdowns. If there is a HDD problem the drive will typically work or not work not work and then lag.

Its not a heating issue. Streaming music uses very little cpu/gpu power, and using the kindle even less even if through a browser there is no way this will overheat your gpu. The system is freezing up irregardless of what you are doing with it because it is Windows Update which runs in the background and is maxing out your HDD throughput. The cache is clogged.
