New HTPC build for an old time PC buff

Greetings,

I have built a few dozen PCs over the past 20 yrs (starting with a 286), but
only one recently. I am looking for a dedicated HTPC for ~$1000 that has the
following features:

1- HDMI 1080p output to my HT receiver/TV (currently 5,1, but 7.1 capable)

2- SSD storage for OS/programs only, as I have a gigabit network with multi-TB NAS.

3- No TV tuners, but room to add in future.

4- reasonable efficiency with regard to power consumption, and heat generation (My HT equipment cabinet is ventilated and out of sight)

5- Playback, ripping, recording of DVD & BluRay

6- I do like bells & whistles... hence the over-kill MB with USB3, dual lan, etc., and the showy case.


My current plan:

MB - ASUS P8P67 EVO REV 3.0
CPU - Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz
RAM - CRUCIAL 4GB KIT DDR3 1333=(2GB x 2)
PSU - Antec BP550 Plus 550W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Modular
SSD - Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 64GB SATA III
ODD - LITE-ON iHBS212-08 SATA 12X Blu-ray Burner with 3D Playback & LightScribe
Case - SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum Lascala Series LC20B-M

Please let me know if there are any problems with this plan.

consider this:
A8 Llano: $140
AS Rock A75M: $75

better on-gpu graphics, plenty of power (you could even step back to the 3 or 2 core models)
mobo has 8-channel audio

Either setup will work great (i3-2100 or Llano). It looks like you've already done your homework. Nice list. Keep us updated on your project.

I have always preferred Intel, and had extremely good luck and high reliability from ASUS MBs.

A bit of "old dog, new tricks" I guess...

I pushed the button on this last night; MB/CPU/Ram from Mwave, Drives/Case/PSU from the Egg. The Egg order has already shipped! Maybe I'll get a chance to install the drives & PSU before the MB arrives.

always easiest to install mobo first. its under everything else.
