Hello everyone. I am trying to build a PC for a friend, but with this new intel gen out in the market, I really want to know a little bit more about them.
I want to buy him an i3 8100 and a new mobo, but we must not exceed $200.
Could you recommend me please?
Also, is i3 8100 the same compatibility as i3 6100?
Thank you very much.

Something tells me that your friend DO NOT have DDR4 ram, but the older DDR3 ram. You friend will need to have his current computer as either Ryzen system or Intel...

This is just something quick i threw together using the lowest prices available.

The 8100 and 6100 though same socket cannot use the same motherboards. 8100 requires a 300 series motherboard.

Above MB is the cheapest atm, Only Z370 or future 3xx MB will support I3-8100, and does not support 6100. I suggest you wait for cheaper 3xx mb to come out early next year. Locked cpu and OCable MB, not good match, unless you want to keep the OC potential.

So what's going on with i3 8100? I've been reading amazon reviews and everyone is so unsatisfied. Should we try ryzen out? I need the best I can get for $200, and we need MOBO + CPU

Dude, do you have ddr4 ram? If not, both coffee lake and Ryzen will require that. 8100 is good, but Ryzen is more cost-effective due to only Z370 MB is available for coffee lake now. If you have a current rig or already owned components, show us :)

You would wan't to get some 2400MHz RAM, to not underclock the memory controller on that CPU.

That was just an example showing the lowest prices, not a recommended build.

Looking at Amazon reviews, pretty much all the negative reviews seem to be 1 star reviews from people who don't even seem to own the CPU and are just butthurt about poor availability. A few others complaining about how it can't be overclocked, which shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone. And some just seem to be outright trolls. In other words, no one seems to have any complaints about the CPU itself.

Yeah pretty much sums up all of those 1 start reviews. Pretty much all of them aren't even verified buyers / owners of that CPU. Not to mention most of them don't even talk bad about the product, they just bad mouth Intel as a whole.

As I said, I am building it for my friend. He owns pretty old components, so he wants to upgrade the mobo and the cpu. But here in our country we are only 'available' to buy packages not over $200, for it to be 'tax free'.
So what do you recommend me to do? I think he already got ddr4. I just asked him that.

Something tells me that your friend DO NOT have DDR4 ram, but the older DDR3 ram. You friend will need to have his current computer as either Ryzen system or Intel Skylake/Kaby Lake system to have DDR4 ram.

Whats the best ryzen build (mobo + cpu) for $200, knowing he already owns 8gb ddr3?

He will need new DDR4 RAM for a Ryzen build as well.

Imagine we get the DDR4 RAM here. What's the best build for just mobo and cpu for $200?

Pretty sure he can just translate what $350 is in his own currency with Google.
