Question New i5 13600k uses only 2 cores

It is a bit confusing.
Unless you have a workstation, you will have only a single processor.
Your 13600K has 6 performance cores and 12 performance threads.
You also have 8 efficient cores.
Likely, your windows is set to use only 2 cores, perhaps you reused your windows c drive.

If you leave the number of processors box blank, you should activate all of your cores/threads.

Yes, I am using my old windows C drive, but my previous processor was an i5 7600k which has 4 cores and 4 threads and it worked fine.

I've already done the msconfig thing, it only shows the 4 threads there.

You might be able to correct it by refreshing your chipset driver, however I would expect other bugs and issues to be a constant factor moving forward.

Do yourself the favor, now, and just wipe and reinstall OS. Future you will appreciate the efforts of past you.

Okay, it's fixed, for now. I've done 2 things, I've let the msconfig number o processors box unchecked and I've also uninstalled the old mobo's app center and installed the new one's instead. I don't know which of the two fixed it, but I'm happy it did.

Now there's the XMP profile issue which baffles me greatly.

I was about the reinstall the OS after a back-up anyway, but I thought I would use the old OS to test the components and such. I didn't anticipate the old OS can impact the hardware so much.

I've recently build a new PC, but the system uses only 2 cores/4threads out of the 14 cores/20 threads my i5 13600k has.
I also have an issue with my new 2x16 GB Corsair Vengeance 6400 Mhz CL 32 1.4V RAM sticks, which emit a high pitched noise when enabling XMP in the bios
Is the CPU broken? What about the RAM problem? Help.

Make a clean install.

You moved 6 generations up. I would rather surprise if you don't have any issues without a clean install.

Your problems or at least some of them might be resolved, but still new issues might arise. Make a clean OS installation.
