New i5 3570k build

Mar 2, 2008
Hello all,

I want to build a new Intel gaming rig to replace my q6600@3.3ghz, GTX 570 rig I built 5 years ago (I've upgraded the graphics a few times). I game but also do everything on this computer (research, work, etc). It still games fine, but is not nearly as fast as my laptop that has an i5 for doing things other than gaming (maybe I just need to get rid of Vista and buy an SSD?).

I don't have a "budget" but I try to buy in the best bang/buck range. My philosophy is to build a new computer every 4-5 years, but upgrade graphics every year or so.

CPU: It seems the i5-3570k is the best bang/buck cpu right now.
GPU: the GTX 570 seems fine for now since all new games are made for the crapbox360. I would like 2 gpu slots for the ability to do sli/crossfire in the future. I game at 1920x1080.
MOBO: Need help here. If I want 2 gpu ability, it seems I need z68 or z77. z77 is newer, so I'll probably go with that, but I don't know why it's better. I will definitely overclock. It seems you can get a good mobo for <$160. I'm leaning towards Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (but extreme6 is out...what's the difference?).
RAM: 8gb of DD3 1600 with good reviews on Newegg?
SSD: it seems they're all pretty close in speed. ~200gb, good name, good reviews.

I appreciate the help. Again, I'm looking for bang/buck, reliability, good upgradability, and overclocking (I probably won't mess with OC'ing gpu and ram, only the cpu). In my experience, ram and gpu overclocks don't really translate to real world performance changes, but they can translate to real world headaches.
