I bought a brand new i7-9700k from Amazon and installed it today but it when I try to boot it nothing happens. Just the motherboard lights up a little bit and the fans turn on then the computer shuts off. I put back in my previous i5-7500 and updated my bios (or at least I think I did) and tried it again with the new i7 but I still doesn’t boot. I tried resetting the CMOS but still nothing happens. If anyone could help I’d greatly appreciate it!

Solution
Not compatible.

Since you mention your previous cpu being an i5-7500, that means your current board is either 100 or 200 series chipset.
9th gen needs 300 series, and to be more specific, B365 or Z390.

Cheers I see it says it’s a B250 I’ll buy a new motherboard tomorrow

Not sure if this helps, but I have the Z390UD for the same cpu and it works fine, its a budget board but handles the cpu like a champ, I got it to 5.1Ghz but I prefer the stock 4.7Ghz Enjoy the cpu
