Okay, I’m starting my new build.
For my most recent build, see http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3806325/upgrade-x99-haswell-core-5820.html
As for my background, I've done numerous builds over the last couple of decades, but don't build very often. So, I'm not really feeling like I'm up to date with the latest and greatest.
PROCESSOR: Intel i9-9900K
MOTHERBOARD: MSI MEG Z390 ACE LGA1151
GPU: NVIDIA 2080ti Founders Edition (moved over from my old X99 build)
DRAM: Corsair VENGEANCE® LPX 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 Memory Kit CMK64GX4M4B3200C16, which is on the MotherBoard’s Approved List
BOOT SSD: SAMSUNG SSD 970 PRO MZ-V7P1T0 (1TB) NVME M.2. I may also use a SATA SSD for backup.
OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 10 PRO
COOLER: Corsair Hydro H150i PRO 360mm Cooler
EXTRA 3 PACK OF FANS: Corsair LL120 RGB 120mm Fans
POWER SUPPLY: Cooler Master V1200
CASE: Corsair Obsidian 500D RGB SE (Mid-Tower)
FAN CONTROLLER: Corsair Commander PRO
LED CONTROLLER: Corsair LED Controller bundled with Case, bundled with Fans, links up with Commander PRO
DISPLAY: ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q 240 Hz 1920x1080 for gaming, though I use a Dell 43 inch Ultra HD 4K P4317Q for non-gaming use
QUESTION 1: These LED fans lead to a lot of extra wiring. I think I’m just going to leave the LED wires bundled-up and non-connected for now. I might wire up the LEDs later. Any downside to that?
QUESTION 2: Can I just cut the LED wires off the fans, close to their housing? They seem to add no functional value. I'll wait till I get the fans running on the power supply, and I probably won't actually follow-through with cutting the LED wires off, but they seem like unnecessary bling.
QUESTION 3: Any tips or tricks I should be thinking about? I've watched a couple YouTube videos on each major component, and am starting to put it all together today.
