Ken,
Right-clicking a blank area in the Desktop launches the context menu handlers present under:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
Note that some graphics drivers / software add a context-menu entry to the above registry path. If you've verified that and the problem persist, then no further ideas on this.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I tried both links and both solutions.
Neither solved the problem. I don't seem to be running DivX (no entries
for it in the registry), and disabling the non-Microsoft context menu
entries didn't help, either.
If I didn't need XP to run Photoshop Elements, I'd go back to ME in a
heartbeat. Any other ideas for possible solutions?
Regards,
Ken
