Hi all, new here...

Having a problem with my newly purchased Kingston 120GB internal SSD.

Slotted it in the top of my case, booted windows 10 up, it didnt show up as a drive, however, it did show up in Disk Management. The only option I believe was "initialize" ... So I done that and it wanted to be formatted MBR, so I tried that and then it said device not connected or something... so I tried again, same thing, shut down pc, unplugged it and plugged it back in, started pc up again, now I cant even see it in DIsk Management....

Any help would be greatly appreciate as im getting quite frustrated now 😛

Cheers!

Solution
Its actually easier than you think.

1. Flashlight
2. Power off
3. Take off the side panel
4. Look around, and touch/wiggle the cables that look like they are coming from the backside of that external dock location. See if anything is sort of loose.

Sorry for the low quality, it wouldnt focus.

Yes, though I think I was told it wasnt hotswap, but yeah it has the exact connection that my SSD has and fits in perfectly, and it showed up in disk management the first time when i tried to initialize and format, but it has disappeared since.

Then I'd suspect a simple case of something not being connected properly
It used to work, now it doesn't.

Have tried reconnecting it 3 times. It doesnt show since initializing/formatting and getting the error device not connected, i dont know how i could connect it any better, its connected... not loose at all

And from that external bay to the motherboard and PSU? The connections inside.

Check those cables yourself.

If it is not a connection, then it is a dead drive. Which is HIGHLY unlikely.

Just tried to have a look, I dont know how to get up under there and I dont want to mess things up more, I also dont want to have to pay $99AUD just to have my pc looked at from my local place. I guess I just have to cut my losses as the SSD almost cost as much as it would cost to get my PC looked at.

It should still be under warranty.
It should NOT cost any money to get things working.

Well I doubt the SSD is dead as it did show up the first time, then i tried to initialize and format and it said device not connected and it hasnt shown since many restarts and unplugging it/plugging it back in. I bought the SSD online so I dont know anything about the warranty and if I cant get it going myself then it *WILL* cost me $99AUD to have it looked it, thats what it costs at my local place to just have a look. I am really at my wits end with this thing, I honestly wish I just bought an external and it worked, I did not think I would have these issues, I thought I could plug it in and initialize/format. But obviously not. And since it wont even show in disk manager now I have no clue what I can do.

I dont think I have a warranty on this case, its not a new purchase.... I have had this case for over a year, and the rest of the system for more than that... I honestly think I am going to have to pay $99 just to get this working and it didnt even cost $99... which makes me want to cut my losses instead of spending more cash on this stupid SSD.

Then see about installing internally.
There should be sufficient ports on the motherboard, and a place to mount it.

It's pretty easy.

I dont know, I cant see any place to mount it, or what cable would go where. I bought this SSD as it looked like all I had to do was slot it in and initialize/format. I am not very educated when it comes to installing hardware internally.

Could it be hidden for some reason due to the way it was initialized/formatted/error "device not connected" ? if not, i am out of ideas on what else to ask. 🙁 I wouldnt have a clue what i am doing if I was to install it another way, especially since I cant even see how to get to the cables of the "bay" that im connecting it to.

If it was initialized and formatted, and not it shows "not connected"...that leads to it being not connected.

Is it seen in Disk Management? If not, then there is a physical disconnect.
If it is seen there, then it may simply need a Drive letter.

And sorry if I seem annoyed etc, I am grateful for your help in diagnosing the problem. I just feel I have wasted money on a paper weight as I cant do anything except spend more money than what 2 of these would have cost in order to get a single one working. Which I refuse to do.
