Hello,

Q1. Should I wait for windows 12 to be released then buy a new laptop? I read windows 12 will not be a free upgrade from windows 11. I want my laptop to last as long as possible, I was thinking windows 11 would have a short lifespan since windows 12 might be coming out in 2024. It seems like windows always release a long lifespan version (e.g. win 95, win 7, win 10) then a short lifespan version with lesser changes (e.g. win 98, win 8) so I am assuming win 11 might be a short lifespan version.

Q2. What are your views on this laptop ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 8 Intel (14”)https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/lapt...kpad-x1-yoga-gen-8-(14-inch-intel)/21hq001uus

Q3. Is 16GB ram in laptop enough to smoothly run my tasks listed below without lag? I am assuming ram is the most important thing that affects speed for my tasks?

My requirements

Tasks: Load webpages fast, open multiple browser windows and tabs, youtube, zoom, microsoft office, excel, word, sometimes 2 windows side by side.

Power on for 365 days continuously without switching off (I have scheduled auto backup during I am sleeping), or maybe switch on every night during I am sleeping (so the scheduled backup can run).

Need to have touchscreen and pen/stylus.

Need to be able to connect to monitor (project laptop image on monitor).

Durable, use for many years.

Thank you

nawh man... if win 12 isn't a free upgrade, then the laptop you're gonna buy with win 12 will come with the cost of win 12 (aka. the price of the laptop+price of win 12)

something I've noticed is that you tend to overthink on stuff that you shouldn't be, even in most of your previous posts.

yea, decent web browsing and a couple more apps on the background would be fine

these depend on the laptop, and if it supports it.

Six months or so after the release of Windows 12 there'll probably be rumours of Windows 13 so you'll never win. You may as well buy your laptop now.

The laptop you linked to has HDMI and Thunderbird 4 so you can also physically connect a DisplayPort monitor.

Durability??? The most important thing you need is good luck. CPUs are highly reliable, the other parts are not so much. Laptop or PC. Leaving aside software issues.

Buy the machine when you need it rather than second guessing yourself endlessly with what somebody says on the Internet.

Sheer CPU horsepower is the most important speed factor, assuming you have a plausible amount of RAM...say 16 gb. I'm still using 8 GB of RAM and rarely is that a factor.
