New laptop for photo editing

Hello all,

I'm looking for recommendations for a laptop to buy for a friend as a birthday present. They need something that will be good for editing photos for edtiting and posting high quality photos on social media. I've filled out the questions below so I hope that will help.

1. What is your budget? £400 to £500

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? At least 14"

3. What screen resolution do you want? As high as possible for the budget

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? Portable

5. How much battery life do you need? 4 hours minimum

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? No

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.) Laptop is going to be used for photo editing and social media

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need? 256gb min

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop? 2 years plus

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ? None

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

13. What country do you live in?

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
 
I would strongly suggest a gift card of the appropriate amount.

Laptops can be very personal devices. The feel of the keys and touchpad, look of the monitor, size, weight, etc, etc.

Thank you for the suggestion. If we were to gift our friend a gift card we would still end up asking for advice as my friend has little to no knowledge of computer hardware.

I've been asked to get suggestions however my area of expertise is in gaming desktops which I build and sell. Not laptops that are suitable for editing HD pictures on the fly so I'm looking for some advice.

Within a certain price band, components are roughly similar.
Especially at the lower end, where you are.

Hard to go wrong with a Lenovo or Dell.
Possibly look at the Dell Outlet, for a refurb. You might get a bit better components for the same expenditure.
