Bought a new laptop with no OS installed. It has a 1tb HDD and I'm using my old SSD. I formatted my old SSD, put it in the new laptop in bay 2. Booted from usb and installed 8.1. 8.1 installed without a hitch on the SSD, but in windows it's not seeing my 1tb HDD.

I go to bios and it see's both HDD and SSD, but when I go to boot order it doesn't see my SSD, only my HDD. The weird part is when I go to boot order override and select SSD it tries to boot Windows 7.

What did I do wrong

Solution
You need to install windows with ONLY the SSD installed. Leave the HDD unplugged diring install. This put the hidden boot partition on the SSD.

I think your install put the boot partition on the HDD, and when you force it to boot to the SSD, it is looking for the original win 7 install.
