I have a Lenovo G50 laptop with
8gb DDR3 RAM
i7 4558u CPU
Radeon R5 M230 2gb GPU
500gb HDD
15.6" screen with a 1366 x 768 screen resolution

I've had the laptop for 4 years (Bought it brand new with windows 10 home)
and it's starting to slow down. Opening apps and web pages is slow, nd almost every command or action carried out is quite slow for an i7. Start up is averagely slow.

I'm studying IT Engineering and use the laptop for coding and web design.
I am a student in South Africa so i have a very low budget for another laptop if I have to get a new one.

I want to know if it will be better to change my HDD to an SSD or replace the laptop completely. When I check the performance of the laptop in task manager my Disk is usually running at 90% +

If I were to get a new laptop, one or 2 i found that are in my budget. The ne has 4gb ddr4 ram with a Ryzen 5 2500 CPU and a regular HDD. The other is an i5 8th gen with 4gb ddr4 ram and a regular hdd.

I do have a gaming desktop with high specs so I wont be using this for gaming. Purely work related.

Solution
An SSD is optional but yet necessary.
I would grab an SSD regardless if you plan to keep your current laptop or go for a new one.
For me, SSD is a must.
Even my old T400 (P8700) runs a lot faster with an SSD
