I've got a new HP laptop (Pavilion x360) with Win10. On battery, the screen turns off after the set amount of time. When plugged in, it doesn't. It goes to the lock screen and shows different wallpapers.

I've searched and nothing seems to apply. I've updated all the drivers and Windows. I have no external devices plugged in.

I have it set not to sleep when plugged in and have screensaver turned off.

Minimal. No Anti-virus. Things like Quicken, Chrome and TurboTax. I don't even have office installed.

I also would be surprised if software affected the screen turnoff when plugged in but not battery.

Okay. I figured it out. There is a setting under Lock Screen:

"When my PC is inactive, show lock screen instead of turning off the screen"

That was checked. Not sure why it is different plugged in. Seems like a bug (or at least unclear explanation).
