I myself currently have 2 NEC Multisync 2080 monitors (2080UX+ and 2080UXi), these are imho superb, I now want to purchase another monitor for the family computer (the 2 NEC's are on the back of mine because I'm greedy) however because I do not want to outlay that amount of money again I'm unsure of what to get.

I am looking for a 20" display but the resolution is not a factor - 1024x768 would be fine because thats what most games run at on that system (9800XT). The NEC's kindly resize any image to the native resolution of 1600x1200, are there any other 20" monitors which are either 1024x768 native or upscale the image like the NEC's. Or should I perhaps be looking for a TFT television with a DVI input?

Also there is a setting in Catalyst Control Centre to scale the image to the panel size but will this affect the systems performance? If not then that will save me alot of hunting.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

20 inch LCD's are pretty much going to be 1600x1200 across the board. Unless it is a widescreen in which case it will be 1680x1050. Also the majority of monitors today will have DVI inputs, infact every NEC LCD with the exception of the 52V has a DVI input. Sounds like your parents dont need anything fancy so you could probably go with just about anything. As far as NEC I would recommend the LCD2070NX for a 20 inch with general desktop capabilities.

Scary, how did you know it was for my parents and not for the kids? :)

I ended up purchasing a 19" BenQ FP91G+, great for the money but it doesn't scale 🙁

Thanks for the reply.
