I am looking at buying a new monitor, my 21" CRT is getting kind of outdated, with some ghosting starting to appear, but she's been good to me so far. Ive been looking at this Viewsonic http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116373

Thats quite cheap for a widescreen 19" with an instant rebate. Will games start to go widescreen more in the future? thats my main issue with a widescreen, b/c a lot of games right now don't seem to work well (ones that I play at least). Any other suggestions (19" or bigger - $300 or less is my price range) would be very helpful. Thank you

Ye i would have to agree with the ViewSonic VX922. You mostly always pay extra for widescreen and the ViewSonic VA1912wb is about $40 cheaper, so just remember you pay for what you get. You will have a much better LCD for only $40 more.

i've got to say the 19" wides are only about $215 which is a good price (Acer 8ms)

but i've seen a 19" wide at walmart, it seems small maybe because i just waled by it, i have a 17" wide screen on my laptop its fairly large, so i think a 19" wide would be fine, it would be the way i got with 19" u gotta sit further back too much surface area to see with 1 glance. maybe its just me. but i never play my games full screen....yah im weird like that dont ask. if i can window it i will.

my vote is for the 19" wide.

also can someone explain me the 8ms and 2ms and 3ms whats the difference?

It's one of those standards that's not standardized... Some manufacturers measure the time for the LCD to go from grey to white and back to grey. Others measure black to white to black and that takes longer than grey to grey. The typical human eye can see an artifact such as frame rates slower than about 30 to 40 per second. 30 frames a second means ~33ms per frame. So LCD response times are measured to give a hint about gaming performance or response when watching action movies, etc. Opinions vary but for sure by the time you get to 20ms, you'll see artifacts when gaming. 16ms is a common threshold for gaming monitors.

Also remember Google is your friend, just search google for reviews on the monitors you are interested in, like clueless says you cant always go by what the manufacturer says.

I have the vx922. Get the vx922. 'Nuff said.

OK, but really, I recommend that monitor now that it is $250, 2ms refresh rate, and it is Viewsonic. What more could you ask for?

/agreed VX922 or VX924 are your best bet, and so cheap, im thinking about picking up one for dual display =)! I have the VX924 and it is also a beast of a monitor, also consider yourself lucky, the price has dropped about 40% since last september when I bought mine. *shakes fist*

I had the gateway 21" widescreen and took it back and got the samsung 204B. I could never get BF2 to play in the native widscreen resolution (1680x1050) so I finally gave up after six months of trying. I would always have to run it at a lower resolution and it didnt look that great. With the 204B I can run it at 1600X1200 and it looks awesome. Be aware you will need a great videocard to run everything at that resolution, but its worth it, crap just talking about BF2 is making me want to play now!! Later soldier.....

get a BenQ 20.1 Widescreen click here

i just got this and it is sweet to say the least, i was looking heavily at the VX922 but due to its low response time of 2ms it doesn't have as good of image quality...and most of all the response time is not something that you will ever notice, the BenQ has 8ms which is good enough that you won't have any ghosting...been using the BenQ for a week now playing BF2 at 1680x1050 resolutions and haven't had any ghosting effects... at $299 its probably the best deal you can get for its size,

I just bought a BenQ FP93G 6ms 19".
I fell in love with it the first night I had it. Vibrant colors and games look better than on my old CRT.
I paid $210 from newegg.
