Question New Linux user. My "privateVpn" is using & knows my root password. What to think?

Vpn is using my linux root password to access service. It was odd to install because i am on linux vs
windows, we used the command line/terminal to set it up. I thought root access should never be shared. I guess that basically gives them open access to all my computer, i am questioning their legitimacy. Plus i always have to use the same ip.
I did a search to see list of root users using Terminal (removed my user name from list) :

# getent passwd | awk -F: '{ print $1}'
root
daemon
bin
sys
sync
games
man
lp
mail
news
uucp
proxy
www-data
backup
list
irc
gnats
nobody
systemd-network
systemd-resolve
syslog
messagebus
_apt
uuidd
cups-pk-helper
kernoops
rtkit
avahi-autoipd
usbmux
lightdm
dnsmasq
saned
nm-openvpn
avahi
colord
speech-dispatcher
pulse
hplip
geoclue
mysql

I even see a user called "nobody"
