New macbook pro won't allow me to add files onto my external hard drive

My new macbook pro won't allow me to add files onto my external hard drive. I checked the disc utilities and it (being my external hard drive) is formatted for a mac, not NTFS. I previously had a macbook air and did not have this problem on my macbook air.

I'd suggest you go to Disk Utilities again and test the external hard drive for defects from there. You also have the option to Repair Disk Permissions. If you need assistance with this procedure, I'd recommend you check this tutorial from our KB.
