New RAM not working as expected and wondering if it's bad RAM or my build just doesn't like it. I ran the memory diagnostics and didn't come up with any problems.

I built this system back in 2015 and for the most part it has worked out fine for my needs.

I was running 8GB RAM (2x4GB) and decided I want to expand to 16GB. I bought Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory 1.5V and installed it and the motherboard detected it and seemed to run fine until the PC started freezing and shutting down. I even got a green pixelated screen at one point. I put back in the old RAM and it's working now.

I have now purchased Patriot 16GB(2x8GB) Viper III DDR3 1866MHz (PC3 15000) CL10 Desktop Memory with Black Mamba Heatsink - PV316G186C0K and will see if this works..

CPU - AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5GHz
M/B - Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P AMD+, rev 2.0

Thanks,

Daniel

Solution
Settings look good. It's possible, DDR voltage is not enough for 1600mhz mode.
Go into BIOS and set DDR voltage to 1.65V.
Also set Command Rate to 1T.

Can you show screenshot from CPU-Z - memory and spd sections (with new ram installed)?

Which slots did you install ram into?
It's recommended to use slots DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 (grey color).

Even before I adjusted the settings it seems to be working just fine today. Last night was a different story as it was just freezing, not booting properly. But today seems fine.
Wonder why that would be..
