msi PC-Z97 PC Mate motherboard. Bios is: e7850ims v4.5
PNY XLR8 4GB ddr3 1600mhz stick.
Crucial 4GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s PC3-12800 CL11 Unbuffered UDIMM 240-Pin Desktop Memory Module CT51264BA160B
Core i5-4460

The sticks are in slot 1 and slot 3. The first time I install the new crucial stick the bios will immediately recognize the new 8000megs of memory. When I load windows it only detects 4gb and when I restart again the bios only recognizes 4gb again. I did this process twice with the same result. I also tested the new ram on it's own and it's perfectly fine.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Solution
The DRAM appears compatible with the mobo - big thing is the sticks have to play together and doesn't sound like these two want to play - It's never a good idea to mix DRAM from different packages - even if they are the same exact model - have seen lots of people buy 2 sets of teo sticks of the same DRAM , figuring they are smart and saving $5 or whatever over the price of a 4 stick package, only to find they won't play nice, then they pay return postage and often restocking feees, etc, then on top of that have to pay the additional $5 to get a set of 4, or they pay an extra $25-$30 (and without the sytem for a week or more) 😉

load windows hold windowskey+R then type msconfig

click on boot, advanced options

untick max memory then apply, ok then reboot

windows will now reload the amount of ram (i had to do this myself)

The general recommendation is to use identical sticks of RAM when in dual channel mode.
Try then in slot 1 and 2 instead. They won't be dual channel, but they might work together.
Also check for any available BIOS updates regarding RAM compatibility.

I'll try it in slot 2 tomorrow.

I feel like this should be a BIOS update but searching my bios version doesn't appear much... at least in english. Most 1600 ddr3 ram should be compatible do my knowledge. If not why shouldn't my motherboard be able to configure it
