Hi There,
At the moment im using tp-links p9 mesh, as much as its been pretty decent, updates are very few and far between and a recent discovery that it uses wpa and wpa2 and testing it on Fing and it showing wpa ive decided to get rid and get an alternative. What im looking for off you lovely people is recommendations for another Mesh or an alternative to get a signal around a 3 storey house with 2 sons that game on ps4s and Pcs..

If you want actual AP you can look at ubiquiti. Otherwise any inexpensive router will work. Many router have a AP mode but any will work search for how to use a router as AP if it does not. It is trivial.

The only real feature you care about on the router is the wifi. Something around 1450 number or so will likely be fine. That is 3x3 mimo. Most device can only run 2x2 anyway because they only have 2 antenna.
Routers with higher number depend on uncommon data encoding and stuff like 4x4 mimo to get those numbers. Very few devices have this so it does not really pay to get better.
Mesh is just another name for repeater and has most the same problems. The only ones that have less of a problem have a extra radio chip to talk between units and different radio chips to talk to the end machines. This means a 2.4 and 5 chip for the users and another chip that can run 2.4 or 5 but not at the same time for the interconnections. This adds a lot to the cost so most reuse one of chips that talks to users which is the huge performance issue with repeaters.

Best option is ethernet connection to the remote locations and then AP. If you do not have ethernet consider powerline networks to perform the same function. If you have tv coax you can use moca which is much faster than powerline but also costs more.

Choose mesh or repeater as your very last option. You are getting easy setup but trading massive performance.

Thanks for your reply Bill001g, i have 4 powerlines (tplink av2000) that i was going to get rid of, can you recommend an AP for when my sons use their Tablets , phones etc, also can i use an AP on each floor of the house excluding the ground floor where my Virgin hub is.
