I am getting (inheriting actually) a Gateway computer running Windows XP. I am getting a Gigabyte mobo and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor. I have no need for the files on the hard drive. I also have a Windows XP Install disk for Gateway. Do I need to reinstall or can I do this another way?

The gateway install cd prob wont work because most oem cd's check you motherboard bios to make sure you are using the disk on the original model mb. Just plug in your mb and call microsofts line and tell them you replaced the hardware by pressing the # they specify.

I contacted Gateway and they said they no longer have the Windows XP discs. Is there another way to get one without buying one? Could I just use the reinstall program that is on the computer? I reinstalled XP with the old motherboard on it successfully. Could I do that with the new motherboard?
