I just put a new mobo in my laptop and tried starting it without the hard drive but with ram, I got a blank screen and after some research it appears that corrupted ram could be causing this, I also tried starting with the HDD installed but there was no difference, I then tried without ram and HDD and got the same result.

I'm not getting any beep codes and the fan is spinning and varies in speed.

Before I get another ram stick could there be anything else causing the problem, a dud mobo? But the fan works and there are no beep codes.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, it's a HP 15-ab291sa, Intel i5 with integrated graphics, the new mobo is i7 and Nvidia 940m. 2TB Samsung HDD and 8gb ddr3 1600mhz Kingston ram.

Also the motherboard didn't have a CMOS battery installed when I got it, I installed a new one before trying to start the laptop.

And I didn't have the laptop battery installed, could that make a difference?
