I recently installed a new MSI mobo in my machine, and I can confirm that the rest of my hardware is functional. I'm running into one issue though: I cannot access my mouse or keyboard while in normal boot. I can access both through usb2 or usb3 slots on the mobo while in BIOS, and it registers both devices. I can also access both devices while booting into safe mode. The problem arises when I boot into normal windows 7 environment. As soon as it says "welcome to windows" the power for my keyboard and mouse go out.

This is problematic since I am trying to install the drivers for my new mobo, but am unable to do so in safe mode. I cannot run the drivers downloaded in safe mode, nor can I run the setup disk in safe mode. I imagine once the mobo drivers are installed this would clear up, but I can't figure out how to get there. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The new mobo is an MSI H81M-P33

Solution
Your motherboard has PS/2 slots for mouse and keyboard (in addition to the USB you've been using). Motherboards and OS's are easily able to detect and use PS2 keyboards and mice. If you have those available then try one or both of those.

As for me I currently use USB for my keyboard and mouse but if I was in your situation I would use my PS/2 to USB adapter to use the PS/2 ports instead of USB. Then after you get a chance to install the motherboard drivers perhaps you can switch back to just using a USB port again.

Alternatively you can try un-installing the drivers used for your mouse and keyboard and see if that make a difference.
