New mobo, ram, cpu, USB Power surge? wont start. Help!

I recently purchased these 3 products

I was able to get into the bios for a while and found out that my ram does not work with my CPU. When I tried to get into windows when i get to the black screen with the little green bar it just restarts. I tried underclocking my ram but it didnt work. Then I tried only using one ram stick. Than i unplugged and plugged back in one of the USB connectors on the mobo to fix a tangled wire and now when I turn it on, i get USB Device Over Current Status
Detected, shutting down in 15 seconds" I unpluged all the USB power connectors so I have no possible USB devices connected. Did I fry my mobo with static electricty or what?

Also, if I get it to work, Will I need to reinstall windows vista because my os and mobo were from gateway. And how will I do this without a product key? Sorry for bad formating, on cell phone...

Edit: I found out that I do need to reinstall windows and that was most likely why I couldnt not get it to start in the first place. I also had a 1x5 usb plugged into a 2x5 slot. Dont know if this would mess anything up or not. Still can not get it to get past the USB device over current status. I even tried taking the mobo out of the case and starting it on a wooden table. Same thing. I assume since I do not have any USB hooked up to the mobo, I will have to return my mobo? Thanks!

If you put everything back like it was before you started replacing things you may be able to boot again and get into windows. If so, you may be able to recover your CD key by right clicking on My Computer and hitting Properties and looking around in what is probably going to be called the General tab. Most versions of windows will show your CD key in one of these menus. Then you can write it down and try to use it again.

If the computer is OEM, which it sounds like, then MSFT will probably complain about this because the OEM key is supposed to go with the motherboard it was supplied with and nothing else, but the manufacturer doesn't have all the power in these cases regardless what the EULA says. If you can get your hands on a Vista install CD and you still have the key that you own there is no good reason you shouldn't at least try to use it on the new motherboard even if MSFT would rather you buy another license.

In any event, I would try to recover the CD key like I said and then try to reinstall windows with all the new parts in the computer.

I tried putting everything back in but it still doesnt work. I just read that all you have to do is call the 1-800 number and tell them that you put in a new mobo and they will activate it for you.

There is no reason that this memory shouldn't work with your CPU. Now, on the other hand, The memory might not work with the new motherboard. Have you looked at the QVL for your motherboard? Or looked on the G.Skill website to see if G.Skill has tested that motherboard with that memory. At any rate, not being on the QVL just means that Asus hasn't tested that memory with that motherboard.

Ok I found my problem! There was a missing Jumper on the bottom usb wake up device. I put the case fan thing on there accidentally last night and it worked fine. I than put it where it should of been and it didnt start up. Now I put the case fan power plug back on the usb wake up device and I can get into bios!! Now I should be able to reinstall windows but I can not use my case fan until I find an extra jumper. Do I really need that case fan? Will my pc get too hot without it? Or can I go without it for a while? Thanks!

case fan doesn't mean much. just as long as the cpu and gpu and psu fans are going, you can put a box fan near the case if it makes you feel better, doesn't mean much for the short term.

Well, my computer so far has 5 fans of 120+ size and I love all of them. I have another one laying around that I mean to get around to installing in the case at some point too.

If the fan you mean is the top rear exhaust fan for a bottom mount PSU, I would not operate the computer without it. There needs to be a fan in the upper back portion to get the heat out. If it is a PSU fan from a top mount PSU then it isn't the worst thing in the world, but there does need to be one or you are risking thermal damage.

Ok found a Jumper in a 12 year old gateway that works I now got the fan running and can get into the bios but I can still not get into windows. I can get into the tool to check for errors in the disk and do a system restore, memory check, ect. The only way to install windows from that screen it seems is with a backup disk. Since my machine was OEM, I do now have a windows disk. How would I go about reinstalling windows? Thanks!

Ok apparently I can order recovery disks from gateway for 20$ Should I go ahead and take this offer?

It does sound like that may be your best bet.

If you had the ability to retrieve your CD Key I would say you could borrow someone else's CD and just type in your own CD key, but if you have neither the key nor the disk you may have to go to the manufacturer for it.

I would borrow someone elses windows disk but none of my friends have a windows disk. They all buy dells or gateways with no upgrades Hopefully this will work and I will be able to boot again. Thanks!!
