I purchased a pc from ibuypower.com which contained windows 8.1 pre-installed on the SSD, and contained a re-installation disk. I am planning on upgrading my mobo, and I was wondering if I had to purchase a new copy of windows. Is there a way to deactivate windows from my current mobo to allow for installation on a new mobo? Will I need to wipe my SSD that contained the old version? If I do, is it possible to transfer important files to my secondary drive? Thanks and sorry if I'm a bit confused, this is my first time upgrading.

Solution
The only way you can reuse OEM windows is if you call Microsoft and tell them that your motherboard or HDD with OS failed and you had to replace it
