Hi, this doesn't seem a terribly appropriate place for asking about modems, but I couldn't find any other category that obviously fit better.

I need to buy a new modem, and have no idea what to look for. I'm reasonably computer proficient and know some basics about hardware (I assembled my current PC), but I've never before bought a modem. I'm currently using this: http://broadband.motorola.com/catalog/product_documents/SB4200_Aug02.pdf (Be warned, page is a pdf file). If you don't ant to click on the link, it's a Motorola SB4200 Surfboard cable modem. It's like a decade old, but still suits me just fine... when it works. Problem is it's been cutting out recently, so it's time to get a replacement.

I give the specs of the old, because I really am satisfied with it, other than the fact it doesn't work anymore. I've looked up modems online and found some quite cheap DSL modems that I think would do the trick, I'm just not sure what I could be missing. Plus, they're so cheap it makes me a little suspicious. There are several variations of the D-Link 320 (320A, 320B, 321) that are 24Mbs and very cheap. My current ISP plan is for around 15Mbs. Is there any good reason one of these wouldn't suit me?

I have my modem linked to a Linksys router, which gives wireless access to my laptop and is cabled to my PC; I don't have any need for any more fancy networking than that. Go ahead and recommend specific models if you want, but bear in mind I am in Denmark, so I can't buy off NewEgg or some other US sites.

Thankyou.

If you really like what you have, just get an updated version like the SURFBOARD SB6121. I have one and it works well, it is compatible for DOCSIS 1.x - 3.0. There are other models that include wireless N and gigabit Ethernet like the SB6580, but since you already have the Linksys that would be a waste of money. Not sure where you could buy it though as I don't see it on the European Amazon sites.

Not sure if you could use a DSL modem, as what you have now is a cable modem.
