Hello all,

I am currently looking to replace one of my Acer H276HL (1080P) monitors with either a 1440P or 4K Monitor. I have been looking at several different monitors including doing a comparison in my local Microcenter between two of them. Couple of things to know about my current setup. Both of my existing 1080p monitors are TN panels and I have no issues with them. I do not use the monitors on their stands, instead, they mount to my articulating arms. My system specifications are in my signature, but I would be driving the monitors with EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ graphics cards in SLI (possible a third in the future)

Realistically, the TN vs. IPS vs. PLS doesn't bother me too much. These two Acer 1080's I have now have real nice color, vibrance, etc. When I tweak them with the nVidia control panel, they look real good for TN panels. What I am trying to do is "futureproof" my displays. I know this is difficult with technology changing and only works to an extend with PC's but I tend to go 5 years at least on monitors before they are ready to be swapped.

Here are the monitors:

With that out of the way, I have been doing some research on other monitors. Since I am not too too sure on how changing resolutions will work from monitor to monitor. In other words, I know on my 1080, if I drop down to some other resolutions they get a bit fuzzy and such, obviously because I am dropping off native resolution. With that said, I have read that the Acer XB280HK bprz (G-Sync Monitor) can take advantage of "Dynamic Super Resolution" (DSR). From what I have read and in a nut shell, this would allow me to render in 1440p without issue. Does anyone have experience with this, is it true? Has anyone used this particular monitor and at 1440P?.

Thanks for the help.

Alright, so I have been doing a bit more research and such. If I go with 4K, I am going to go with the Acer XB280HK (Gsync Monitor). I don't think getting a 4K without GSync is preferred. With that said, I have been looking at fast refresh rate 1440P monitors and seem to think I might just have to drop the cash on the ROG Swift or the Acer G-Sync/144hz monitors. Now I realize that the ROG Swift is a TN panel while the Acer is an IPS. I can get my hands on an ROG Swift for $589 and the Acer for $720.

Thoughts.

If you plan to only run one monitor just get the rof swift. The ips panels are ideal for multi monitor setups because they generally have thinner bezels around. But at 1440p doing a surround setup would not ony be expensive as all hell in monitors but would take probably 4 titanX's and even then might not run at 144fps to match your 144hz of the monitor. If you were doing 60hz monitors and wanted to run surround you could do that in sure. I say rog swift

My plan right now is to use the new monitor (4k or 1440P) as the prime gaming monitor and use one of my existing 1080P monitors as the secondary. I can't function on my day to day activities on one monitor. I am doing to stick with my dual monitors but wasn't planning dual say 4k or 1440p monitors for a long while.
