I am on the market for another monitor for my setup (i have two - 1080p monitors) and i wanted the third one to be higher resolution and use it as a main monitor.

I primarily play games on my PC but sometimes do some work on it.
My GPU is : GTX 1070.
I am divided between a 1440p 144Hz & 4K 60hz
I am siting at ~32 inches(81cm) away from my monitors

Solution
I would not go 4k with a 1070. You will have to lower your settings to get decent framerate. 1440p/144hz would be the way to go.

You can get a really nice 1440p monitor for under 600. Below is a very nice Acer that checks all the right boxes.

Also, I dont know about your deskspace, but you could still go ultrawide and run a second monitor. I do. I have a 34" Acer and a 24" 1080p monitor on the side. I like to watch sports when I game or work on the...
Have you thought about going with an ultrawide monitor. An ultrawide is like having 2 monitors together without a bezel. It is nice for gaming and very handy for working on your computer. You can have several web pages and excel sheets side by side. You could sell on or both of your 1080p monitors and get a 3440x1440p monitor.

Once you go ultrawide, you cant go back.

I dont know what your budget is or where you are located, but something like this would be a very nice monitor.

Monitor: AOC AG352UCG6 35.0" 3440x1440 120 Hz Monitor ($649.99 @ Walmart)

I have thought about going ultrawide but i really like the ability of being able to look at my second monitor for some info while playing a game simultaneously. My question is more like is 4K worth it for the resolution or should i go 1440p with a higher refresh rate. Also my budget is ~600$
