Many monitors use PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) for dimming. This means the backlight is turning on and off many times a second, with the proportion of 'on' time determining the perceived brightness. Apparently some people are sensitive to this flickering, and maybe you're one of those people. If that's the case, the only way to fix this would be to set the brightness to max (which I believe should cause the backlight to be constantly on), although that's obviously not a great solution if it ends up being uncomfortably bright. Your other option would be to return your monitor, and get a 'flicker free' monitor, which don't use PWM for dimming.
