New Monitor for GTx 1070 - 1440p?

Hey everyone!

My current monitor is going down the toilet so I'm looking for a new one.
Or more so -two- new ones, matching of course, so dual set up.

I have been looking into a 27" 144hz monitor, but dont know whether I should go for dual 1080p or 1440p. I have a budget of £500 maximum for two monitors, and will likely purchase on sale.

Advice on which resolution size would be best, is much appreciated.

Also, my current is an IPS Panel. Stick with that or switch to TN?

Your budget is very close to checking all of the right boxes. I would look for 27", 1440p, 144hz, gsync, and IPS Panel. Your system will pair nicely with that type of monitor. But a monitor with those specs is at the very high end.

This Acer is expensive, but it does not get much better in the monitor world.

This monitor has very similar specs, but it has a TN panel instead of IPS. TN panels are cheaper, but their colors are not as vibrant and viewing angles is not as good as IPS.

You really don't want 2 1080p monitors for gaming because you will have a bezel in the middle of your screen. If you want multi monitor setup, you need 3 monitors. Or you could go with ultra wide, but those will be out of your price range for a quality one.

Main usage of monitor(s)? Nobody is going to game on 2 monitors, so I'm assuming you're using your PC for some sort of productivity as well? I don't see the point on buying 2 gaming monitors when you're only going to game on one of them (apart from the aesthetics of a matching pair).

As above I'd suggest considering an ultrawide QHD monitor, at 100Hz they're a pretty good compromise for productivity and gaming (and what I chose personally). Or maybe you can concentrate on a superior gaming monitor as primary and then get a lower end secondary monitor (maybe in portrait mode) for productivity benefits.

And if you're not really gaming then forget 144Hz and look for size, res, and image quality. In any case FHD at 27 inches will look pretty bad. And whilst TN panels can actually create great pictures directly in front of them, I'd never use TN in a large format or multi-monitor situation since picture quality tanks when you're off angle.

The monitors would be one for gaming and the other for watching movies, or doing work tasks, yes

What kind of prices would I be looking at for an ultra wide monitor in that case? I have seen a few but they were around 3k each and thats £500 more than I built my pc with which is far out of my budget.

If indeed they are such prices for a decent model I'll take both your advice and get a single high quality monitor for gaming and have a cheaper side one for productivity.

Ultrawide monitors have gone down a good bit. This is the monitor that I have and it is amazing.
