So, I have a new AOC U2879VF 4k monitor and a GTX 970 FTW+ graphics card. With this setup, I can't get past 60 FPS on Black Ops 3 with ALL lowest settings and the resolution at 1080p (50% is lowest and im using it).

Before I had a 1080p monitor and a GTX 760, I could run Black Ops 3 at 60-80 FPS with medium settings.

What I've tried:

  • V-Sync is off in NVIDIA Control Panel for Global. Black Ops 3 is set to use global settings.
Black Ops 3 max frames are 120, with the "Sync Every Frame" turned off.
    Reboot PC
Change resolution of monitor back to 1080p.

I am dumbfounded...

Edit: Tested it in Dota 2, where I get 70+ FPS on highest settings...So on the lowest settings for Black Ops i should be getting better than 60FPS...

Specs:
FX-6300 6-Core Processor
GTX 970 FTW+
24GB Ram

I am NOT trying to play in 4k. It is just a 4k monitor. Im trying to play in 1080p

Solution
check and make sure your cards temps are good when playing and no background garbage apps are running. Do a malware scan and keep an eye on cpu temps. If you have a good cooler a 6300 can do well with a overclock as well.

So, a new Processor?

Sidenote: No matter what settings i put it on, the FPS is usually about the same.

Yes, I know I just got a good deal on 16GB one day lol.

550W Power supply.

Yes, it is set to 1080p, with 50% rendering (lowest)...

UPDATE:

If I change resolution in Nvidia Control Panel to 1080p, it works much better...duh.

BUT. Whey cant I set my monitors resolution to 4k, while playing black ops in 1080p?

550w is meaningless i need the brand and model its the unit that matters the build quality the stability not the output number, its not the same.

blacktops 3 is a triple a game it requires a whole lot more even on the lowest settings.
league is a small moba that requires not much...

anyways i agree you should get a whole more so a few things...

1 did you install the latest drivers and did u delete the old ones before ?
2 you should get 25 fps average , your platform is holding you back( yes the whole amd platform any cpu).
3 a gtx 970 will never play on ultra on 4k its not powerful enough.

so in short , you will need a 980 ti and a i5 6500 to get an average of 50fps look a 980 ti already truffles at it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GGvvjmb5L4

you're better off with a 2k monitor..

I get what youre saying. But for the last time, I DO NOT WANT TO PLAY IN 4K. lol. Sorry, i get what youre saying but I know that...I just want to play 1080p. If I switch native resolution to 1080p and game resolution to 1080p it works at 80 FPS..

So, rather than tell me what I CANT do, why not help me figure out what I CAN do.

I want to play 1080p Bo3 on my 4k monitor. I dont want to play 4k Bo3 on my 4k monitor. lol.

I sound very rude, and for that I apologize.

Right. I have done that. The issue seems to be I cant have my monitor set to 4k and play Bo3 in 1080p. I wonder why.

Hmm. That is odd because ingame resolution should not be affected by desktop resolution. Now if your monitor is a 60hz 4k monitor which it is it wont matter what FPS you get passed 60 because it wont make any kind of difference. If you had say a 100hz 4k monitor (which they dont make) you would see a benefit of increased fps beyond 60 up to 100. However since 4k at the moment is only 60hz i wouldn't worry anyway. Nothing beyond 60fps is benefiting you anyway. As long as you are holding 60fps be happy. Even if you are gaming at 1080p your monitors refresh rate is 60hz so again it wont matter. I would check inside nvidia control panel and make sure no vsync or adaptive vsync is on and also if you are using msi afterburner or evga's precision X make sure to turn off any kind of fps cap or target.

Thank you for your answer. I have checked and it is turned off in Precision. It is most likely my CPU weighing me down 🙁

get a good cpu cooler and overclock the crap out of it a 6300 can unleash its full power when overclocked and not hold back your 970

If you are holding a solid 60fps in games then its not the cpu. Now if you are bouncing from 60 down to like 40's and what not that would be a different story but at 1080p the 6300 will have no issues playing games. Download and run heaven and valley and see what you fps are.

So, really well in Heaven on 1080p (was like 20 FPS in 4k). Why was Valley so much lower?

Not really sure. They each stress different things. Valley maybe ran at higher settings? Either way you went past the 60 fps you seemed to be capping out at. I would go into nvidia control panel and judt make sure global settings has adaptive vsync on and regular vsync off. This will help give you smooth gameplay. Again you have a 60hz monitor so anything more than 60fps you cant see anyway because your monitor can not display it.

Right. Pretty sure it's just a COD issue...oh well.

And yeah, but the thig was it will drop to 40-50 sometimes when I'm used to 80-90 and it dropping to 60-70 lol
