So basically i am looking to go for a dual monitor setup with one 24 inch 144hz 1ms monitor, i was thinking maybe an Acer Predator GN246HLBbid or a AOC G2460PF, I do not know much about monitors and could really do with some advice i am not looking to spend over 200 GBP however may be able to go to 250. For my second screen I would just like a simple 24 inch 1080p monitor for casual use. I am not really looking to go over 100 for this monitor however may spend more.

Thank you

Hi. A good combination is AOC G2460PG and HP 25xw. The first one is the best 144Hz 24" with G-Sync, the second one the best 1080p 25" IPS you can buy.

A cheaper alternative for the AOC is LG 24gm77. It is similar to the AOC, even a bit better image quality wise, but it lacks G-Sync so it would not be my first choice.

If the HP 25xw does not have availability, you should probably opt for the bigger 27" HP 27cw, which is just as good, better than the other 1080p options.

If the 27" is too big for your taste or it does not have good availability too, then consider a Dell S2316H or Dell S2415H. These are your second best choices after the particulars HPs as your non-PC gaming monitors.

I did also manage to find a HP one http://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Natural-Silver-Bezel-Black/dp/B00U67WPDM/ref=sr_1_106?ie=UTF8&qid=1453816211&sr=8-106&keywords=ips+monitor however would seriously prefer a larger monitor for the similar price however when it comes to buying them I may go up in price, don't really want to go over 300 but i could say that 350 is my max.

You are welcome.

As far as the 144Hz monitor goes, do not buy anything cheaper other than the LG 24GM77. Unfortunately if it is not an option, then you are out of luck with good 144Hz monitors before the AOC. The "cheap" BenQs are neither truly cheap nor have decent image quality.

About the IPS monitors. Do not buy the Philips or the smaller HP. I cannot vouch for the former and the latter is an inferior version of its larger siblings. Dell S2316H is in your budget at 122 GBP, are you sure you cannot afford it or buy it anyway?

This LG is slightly cheaper with decent image and hight-adjustable base. I do not suggest it over the Dell since the LG is matte and not glossy, but if you cannot stretch your budget to buy the Dell it is your best option.

Oh yes forgot about the dell actually, that looks really nice and I suppose i can go to 120 for that, so you wouldnt recommend things like the acer predator for a 144hz gaming monitor? And if so what are the problems with it (i have no clue when it comes to monitors -.-) and yeah had a look at that lg and that is not too bad of a price! Thanks for youe help!

You are welcome. Acer does not have good 144Hz monitors in your budget, they have very poor image quality, without sunc techs and back-light strobbing. The equivalent Acer monitor with the AOC I suggested is not cheaper. You should really just buy the AOC, just start with the Dell and buy the AOC when you can afford it.

Ah okay, yes I had heard the TN panels are prone to poor image quality and IPS have very good image quality however cannot get the refresh rates and response times that TN panels can which is why the TN is better for gaming. And Yes I will go for the Dell for my casual screen as it does look very nice and has IPS which will be really nice for a casual screen at the minute i am using 32 inch and 22 inch TVs and it isn't very nice image quality, i also found this monitor which looks very similar to the other AOC but has freesync instead of g-sync which does not bother me a major amount as even if i got the g-sync monitor i would not be able to use g-sync as i have an ati card and freesync does not bother me as my graphics card suprisingly due to AMD's fantastic driver support for their older cards does not support freesync. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B013YIRF4S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Well I am aware of this monitor, but it has really sucky image quality. It is definately below my minimum standards with 1.8 average gamma and washed out colors. These IPS monitors are really not bad for gaming, the response time difference between the Dell and the TN ones are irrelevant. It is only the higher refresh rate, the sync techs and the back-light strobbing that make a difference.

The LG 24GM77 is your best option if you cannot support sync techs, and it is probably worth it to import it from another european country if it is not available in UK.

Boarderline qualifiable is the BenQ XL2430T, although it is not still as good as the LG.

https://skinflint.co.uk/benq-xl2430t-9h-lchlb-qbe-a1153648.html

The necessary changes it need to display a proper image: " We used the Standard profile and set brightness to 39, Gamma to 4, red colour temperature to 100 and green and blue to 93. You might want to turn on Instant Mode as well to reduce input lag. With these settings, we got much more accurate colours: Delta E came down to 2.3, gamma to 2.3 (although it was too high at each end of the scale, meaning blocked-up blacks and blown-out whites) and colour temperature to 6500 K."

An even cheaper choice is the BenQ XL2411Z, with blur reduction and acceptable image quality once you make the changes below.

https://skinflint.co.uk/benq-xl2411z-9h-l9slb-rbe-a1059669.html?hloc=uk

"Use the "Standard" picture mode. Next, set the brightness to 40 to get a more comfortable 200 cd/m² then select gamma profile "Gamma 4". Finally, set the colour temperature to "User" mode with red at 100, green at 95 and blue at 90. This helps calm things down, bringing the average Delta E to 2.1 and the colour temperature 6660 K, while balancing out the gamma at an average 2.3."

I quite look the look and the price of the last benq, when I know exactly how much I am able to spend due to the fact i am waiting for a compensation claim I will know what to go for however I am set on the dell one thanks to you it looks fantastic! And I also think I have managed to find that gaming LG monitor in the UK so you would say go for that one?
