i got a new monitor today (i will link which one at the end)
and whenever i start any game is acts like it opens the game in a resolution that is not the same as my monitors. even though it is.
ill provide a video to show what i mean. i have tried everything to fix this but i cannot fix it on my own (the loading wheel is just my recording software.)(the monitor turns back on seconds later but its annoying because it does it every time i alt tab as well)

Hmm, I'm not sure about the alt-tab, but I do know that at least in my experience, anytime you open a fullscreen app like a game, it basically gives it an exclusive fullscreen, basically completely refreshing the screen, and this could cause the monitor to re-adjust, thus causing the power off. Do you typically have your windows, i.e. internet browser, etc, in fullscreen? I mean F11 fullscreen, not just maximized.

no, just maximized

I'm not certain what's causing the issue with Alt-Tab, however the other issue when launching games seems normal for some monitors. It may just depend on the monitor and how it handles fullscreen refreshes. I've seen this in older monitors too. If it really bothers you, you may be able to try another monitor lying around and see if it has the same issue, if not, could be the monitor and you could either exchange it, or try a different one.

[strike]Also, what connection are you using to the monitor? i.e. HDMI, DVI, VGA, etc.[/strike] Also your GPU model could be useful as it might be related to it. Have you tried updating your GPU drivers as well?

(Gees, how many more times did I say "monitor"?)

i have a gtx 970, and i was not having this problem with my other monitors🙁

Hmm, I've found someone with a similar monitor in another thread which I linked. He sounds to have a similar issue. Sounds like the monitor itself. Maybe you could try changing the hertz as he did, or try a different connection perhaps.

P.S. Sorry for the delayed responses, I'm a little busy, I'll keep responding asap.

same here big snow storm

I found another thread here on Toms Hardware. Maybe you could try the solution there? It looks like there are two.

1. Change the monitors hertz to either 59, or 60.

2.
You can use a work around by adding -sw -noborder to the launch option in the game properties on steam. This will make the game work in full screen windowed mode with the boarders not showing. This will remove any resolution change issues from any source based game.

Even if the game is not from Steam, you can add that line to the game.exe shortcut under "Target" by adding the line at the very end, separated from the path with a space. Do you understand or shall I clarify?

P.S. Does the Alt-Tab issue only occur when you are switching to and from the game, or does it happen all the time, no matter if a game is running?

it happens when i alt tab out and back in, im gonna try both of these and see if it works

Did you try changing the hertz on the monitor itself or from Windows? Maybe you need to change the hertz from both to the same. I'm also going to look through the manual to see if it could be related to some power saving setting as well.

But given that the Alt-Tab issue only happens when going to and from the game, it sounds perfectly normal to me as I get that all the time.

not a bad idea ill try changing some of the power settings

i do have all the games im testing in 16:9, now counter strike no longer does it (after -sw -noborder ) however thats the only game its working for. i also tried 59hz but that didnt do anything for me. and i checked and i dont believe it goes any higher than 60hz

hey thats working. its really srewing up the second monitor but im sure i can fix that but if not oh well its not as bad as the 4 second delay :)

Glad to hear it's semi-working for you. 😉 Hopefully you get the second monitor fixed.

Also from what I'm reading, it could also be common with DirectX 11 and the GTX 970. If you Google GTX 970 Alt Tab you'll find similar issues. Particularly with Windows 10.
