Hi

i've me a new board which is the msi 785gt-e63 the problem is that all the games i play i never get satisfied with the fps..... sometimes i lower the resolution or put of antialasing for Saturn games most of my games i get 100+ fps but i can't play need for speed rivals on medium graphics my specs are

Amd ii x4 645 3.1ghz
8gb ddr2
Gigabyte r7 250 oc edition 1gb gddr5
my psu is an xtech 500watts

please guys help me realize my issue i can't take this lag thing any more

for one your CPU is way on the low powered side now. The R7 250 is a rebadged HD 7770 so it is a mainstream card and is ok for medium to high Grapghics settings at 1080p resolution. then add the fact that you are still running DDR2 ram that is maxed at the most 1066MHz.

you have a low end system and will not get great FPS in some games. If you can not play a game it will be because your CPU is to weak.

I have a very hard time recommending Upgrading an older system like that. But If you go with a Phenom II x4 955 C3 revision or higher you will see a huge increase in frame rates and be able to play all games out right now, albeit on medium settings for some. If you can find one, because they are hard to find, the X6 is teh bestway to go if your motherboard will support the x6 cpu's

Thanks but the board does support amd phenmon ii x6 processors i've also heard that if i buy this it will bottleneck the gpu but never hurts to try money is bad on my side i know what i want but if you don't have the money you can never get it...

Don't get DDR3 RAM... Sorry to say it, but it won't work on your motherboard.
But 8GB is definitely enough, there's no reason for 16GB for games right now.

As for your CPU... There's not much of a difference between your CPU and a Phenom II X4 955. It wouldn't be a worthwhile upgrade.

As you can see, your CPU actually hits the recommended specs for NFS Rivals. Any CPU upgrade would mostly be wasted since you have an R7 250.

It's your graphics card that's weak for that game, not your CPU. I don't want to contradict bgunner; his advice would be fine for CPU heavy games, but it's not correct for NFS Rivals.

Myself having the Athlon II 640 OCed to 3.5 and a Phenom II 965 OCed to 4.073, I can tell you there is a huge performance difference. bench marks say one thing but actual usage tells another. The same game I can get 15+ FPS more between the 2 systems using the same speed ram and same GPU. This happens even on GPU based games. The reason for the big difference is the addition of the 6MB of L3 cache. This is why the new Athlon 750k is on par with the Phenom II 980. the phenom has the L3 cache where the Athlon 750k does not. If it did it would surly surpass the Phenom II 980 by a large margin.

If you can find one the Phenom II X6's are the way to go but It will be very hard to get one new as the supply dried up long before the supply of the Phenom II x4's did. Like I said the least I would go would be the 955 but I urge you go get higher. A Phenom II 965 C3 revision can be OCed to the 980 specs and Higher usually for less money but will require a aftermarket cooler. Because of the extra cores and the ability to OC the X6's prove to be a lot higher in performance than the x4's.

C3 revision CPU's that have the same potential 965,970,975,980 all have the same Denub core but have a slightly different multiplier to add the extra clock speed. The 980 has a stock speed of 3.8 GHz and can be OCed to around 4.1GHz. The 965 has a stock speed of 3.4 GHz and can be OCed to around 4.1 GHz. So in the X4 category they all have the same potential. the Higher clocks were a mid model release to keep the market moving.

i like your recommendation and advise but money is hard i can't afford it 🙁 but what i can do is buy a phenom ii x2 and unlock the cores to get a quad core with L3 caches at 6mb thats not a bad idea right?

there is no guaranty that you can unlock the cores to get a x3 or x4. it is a shot in the dark. If you want a quad core buy a quad core. do not go from the Athlon 645 to a Phenom x2 because you will loose some performance. If you have to wait a month or four and save the money to get a better CPU.

the issue with the 1045T is it does not have the unlocked multiplier. The unlocked multiplier comes on the black editions like the 970. what is an unlocked Multiplier? It allows you to adjust the multiplier in the Bios to increase the CPU speed. OK that is a basic answer. Lets take yours and my Athlons as an example of a locked Multiplier. the only way to overclock a locked Multiplier CPU is by raising the FSB as it used to be known as But is called now for AMD reference clock. The reference clock is the clock all parts of the motherboard run on. This clock controls the CPU, Ram and North Bridge speeds. So to OC a Locked multiplier CPU you need to OC the whole system including these parts. because it OC's every thing you can only go just so far in a performance gain.

Now lets look at a Unlocked Multiplier like AMD's Black Edition (this name is no longer used and all FX series CPU's are now unlocked). Now If your stock CPU runs at 3.6 GHz, how is this number found? the referance clock is always 200 for AMD up to today. So your multiplier is the number that 200 will go into to reach 3600 MHz. So 200 * 18 = 3600 MHz that equals 3.6 GHz. Ok now that is explained. On a unlocked multiplier CPU you can change the mutliplier to what ever you want. This does not mean it will run but you can change it. So following the formula if you change the multiplier to 20 you get a CPU speed of 4000 MHz or 4.0 GHz. when you do this the rest of the system is left at stock speed, meaning your ram speed and North Bridge speeds stay the same. you can gain more performance by being able to change each clock separately.

this is the difference. If the X6 was a black edition then I would say get that one But as it is not, I think the X4 would be a better buy.
