Hi,

My 6+ yr PC doesn't start. If i click power on, it tends to start, within 10 sec, powers off. Sometimes, within 20 sec. That's it.

I thought it was SMPS, but a colleague tells me its the motherboard and confirms that it can't be SMPS. Actually I wanted to replace the board anyways as it was giving me issues ever since it got bricked and i got it fixed via RMA.

Nevertheless, am confused as to what needs to be used - How about the other parts of assembly if i go for only a new board and RAM?

Below is the existing config:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3000.0 MHz - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
CPU Platform: Socket AM2
CPU Code Name: Windsor

Motherboard Model: ASUS M2N-VM DVI
Motherboard Chipset: nVidia nForce 630a (MCP68)

Memory Type: Transcend 2 GB DDR2-SDRAM 400.0 MHz (PC2-6400) (Model: JM800QLU-2G)
Drive Model: Seagate ST3250310AS - 250 GB

Please help as I want this to be fixed at the earliest

I would try to find exactly that mobo on ebay, amazon, etc. and replace the power supply just because it is 6 years old. Using the same mobo will allow you to use the same RAM. IMO, that will get you up and running the fastest.

Then start looking at a complete new build.

If you decide to go the new mobo and RAM route definitely get a new PSU. Here's a list of processor compatible mobo's:

Thank you for the update. But am unable to find options to buy the compatible boards in my place. Whats the recommended PSU for this if i want to replace and can I continue the same processor?

So below are the actions:

If any of those boards list u gave is available, only that and a PSU required.
If none, no other option but to buy the new processor, board, ram and PSU? And the old cabinet suffices?

Kindly suggest

There are a lot of power calculators on the net. After you have located and selected your other parts use one of the calculators to determine the power requirements. Then look in Tom's Hardware PSU Tier List to find a 1st or 2nd tier PSU that is available in your location. Tier 3 and lower are not recommended for systems with graphics cards.

The old cabinet should be fine but only if it has mounting locations for the motherboard you select. That depends on the form factor of the motherboard - ATX, mini-ATX, microATX, etc. Most cases support both ATX and microATX but double check the case you have.

Can I use AM2+ socket motherboard as well? For the processor, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3000.0 MHz - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+...
