Howdy!

I just installed a new MSI B550-A Pro motherboard and on startup there's a white VGA light followed by
1 long beep and 2 short beeps. Curiously, it then proceeds to boot normally, every component is recognised by my system and after opening a few games everything seems to be working. but I still get the beeps and the light whenever I restart!

The MSI website says that beep code means a GPU or monitor issue, so I've done some troubleshooting.

I put the GPU in the other slot. I reinstalled the GPU a couple of times, making sure its connection to the PSU was in nice and tight. I booted with a different monitor plugged in (one was DisplayPort, one was HDMI). I booted with no monitor plugged in. None of this changed anything. (I also reinstalled the RAM a couple times because in my googling a few people mistakenly thought this beep code was a memory error, this does not seem to be the case!)

Below is my full build. The motherboard, CPU, and RAM are all new, the rest of it including the GPU was in my previous build and I know for certain that it works and has worked.

Motherboard: MSI B550-A Pro ATX AM4
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18
Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
PSU: Cooler Master B500 Ver.2 500 Watt, 80+
BIOS: A.F0

While the PC will boot up normally despite the light and the beeps, if I press del to open the BIOS as it's starting up then it won't start at all and I'll be left with a black screen, so I am unsure how to update it if people think that could be a solution.

Thanks for the welcome! Nice to be here!

I'll be able to do a clean install of Windows tomorrow so I will report back with how that goes.

As for the PSU, it's about 6 years old.

I have been unable to open the BIOS like I said before by pressing del on startup. I also tried holding shift while clicking restart which gave me the option to boot and access the files on a flashdrive but when I did that it just booted up normally? That's certainly a new problem for me.

Update: I've done a clean install of Windows and updated the BIOS, now it doesn't beep when my hdmi monitor is plugged in but it DOES when my DisplayPort monitor is plugged in so that seems to be the rub. The monitor still works despite the beeps (still 1 long, 2 short), and it doesn't cause beeps on my other PC. This GPU has also been used with this monitor before and not had any such issues.
