New motherboard, old SSD and windows installation. Can we update drivers another way?

New motherboard, old SSD and windows installation, USB drivers not compatible so can't use Keyboard and Mouse (K&M). No PS/2 inputs. Can still use K&M in BIOS, only stops working when windows starts. This means that we can't use repair disk, as windows repair software still in windows, so K&M don't work.

Tried safe modes, still no K&M. Tried switching the MB's usb setting to different settings, still nothing. Tried seeing if it was possible to use a USB ubuntu (K&M worked in that) to install the drivers on the SSD, but trying to install wine went completely over my head.

Is there a way to update install the new motherboards drivers without resorting to fresh windows install (as no longer have install disk, only repair)? Can you do it somewhere along the startup sequence, before windows starts?

Solution
If everything else works OK, you can use remote desktop using another computer on the network to run the setup. But best thing is to do a clean Windows setup.
